They'll be forever remembered

Although we admit that Hollywood stars are just humans after all and it is as natural for them to die as to be born, the audience still often lingers over the indelible memories that they left behind. This year, Hollywood is in mourning over the deaths of celebrities such as Goodfellas star Ray Liotta, Grammy-winning singer Naomi Judd of The Judds, Hollywood icon Sidney Poitier, Miss USA 2019 winner Cheslie Kryst, and more. Thich Nhat Hanh

Thich Nhat Hanh

While he may be less famous in Europe and the USA, Thich Nhat Hanh was a very well-known and much-respected Zen Buddhist monk in Asia. He was also a poet and peace activist and had written several books, including Peace In Every Step and You Are Here. Thich Nhat Hanh returned to Vietnam, his home country in 2018 after 4 decades of exile. He passed away on January 21, much to Vietnamese people's mourning.

Dan Reeves

Dan Reeves

NFL legend Dan Reeves died at age 77 on January 1 because of complications from dementia, according to his family statement. The former NFL coach is one of the most accomplished sportsmen, with an incredible career spanning over 38 years, first as a star running back with the Dallas Cowboys, then as a venerable head coach with the Denver Broncos, New York Giants, and Atlanta Falcons. Reeves left behind a massive legacy, winning 200 regular-season games.

Louie Anderson

Louie Anderson

Louie Anderson rose to fame in 1984 when he appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Since then, he had established himself as one of the best stand-up comedians, with a long and celebrated career. In 1995 he created and hosted the hit Fox animated series Life with Louie, which earned him two Daytime Emmy awards. The star died in January after a long period of hospitalization to treat blood cancer.

Andre Leon Talley

André Leon Talley was a legendary fashion icon, mostly known for his roles as Vogue's fashion news director and creator director. The American fashion journalist was also one of the most influential authorities on fashion. He died on January 18 from complications of a heart attack and COVID-19, aged 73.

Madeleine Albright

Madeleine Albright

Madeleine Albright made history as the first woman to serve as the United States secretary of state and the highest-ranking woman in the government in U.S. history. The Czech-born American also served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 1993 to 1997. Throughout her career, Albright was a proponent of military intervention to promote democracy and human rights. Albright died of cancer on March 23, aged 84.

Cheslie Kryst

Cheslie Kryst

Cheslie Kryst became a public personality when she won the title of Miss USA in 2019. The star was also famous as a correspondent on the TV show Extra, which earned her two Emmy Award nominations. Much to her fans' regret, Cheslie Kryst died on January 30, at the age of 30. According to authorities, her death was ruled a suicide.

Thierry Mugler

Thierry Mugler

The French fashion designer was famous for his innovative and avant-grade designs, having cooperated with a variety of A-list stars such as Lady Gaga and Cardi B. He was also the founder of the luxury perfume brand Mugler. Mugler died on January 23, 2022, aged 73.

Ray Liotta

Ray Liotta

Liotta's 4-decade career was most notable for portrayals of tough guys — cops, crooks, convicts, killers, you name it. His most famous film was Goodfellas (1990), in which the American actor starred as Henry Hill. The Primetime Emmy Award-winning actor died in his sleep on May 26, 2022, aged 67.

Emilio Delgado

Emilio Delgado

Delgado held the record as the Mexican American actor with the longest run as the same character on U.S. television. For 44 years, he played Fix-It Shop owner Luis on PBS’ Sesame Street, a character that became an indelible part of many children's lives across the country. The actor and singer died on March 10 of multiple myeloma, aged 81.

Taylor Hawkins

Taylor Hawkins

On March 25, Taylor was found unresponsive in a hotel room in Colombia. His death, whose cause is still under investigation, has been attributed to drug abuse. Arguably one of the most accomplished drummers of the modern-day, Taylor had a glorious 25-year career with the rock band Foo Fighters. Following his death, the band wrote on Twitter: 'His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.'

Naomi Judd

Naomi Judd

Naomi Judd was a singer famous for her mother-daughter band The Judds. The country music duo was one of the most celebrated country music act, winning five Grammy Awards and nine Country Music Association awards. Throughout her 3-decades career, Naomi and her daughter landed 14 No. 1 songs. The American took her own life on April 30 after a relentless battle with mental illness.

Veteran actress Estelle Harris passed away on April 3 due to natural causes. Her decade-long career was most notable for comedic roles, thanks to her idiosyncratic high-pitched voice. The American actress's greatest legacy is her portrayal of the overbearing mother Estelle Costanza on the sitcom Seinfeld.

William Hurt

William Hurt

While the young audience may not be familiar with William Hurt, he was one of the most symbolic stars of Hollywood in the 1980s, with salient roles in Broadcast News, Body Heat, The Big Chill, and several Marvel movies. William Hurt died on March 13 after a long period of fighting terminal prostate cancer.

Robert McFarlane

Robert McFarlane

Despite being unknown in the entertainment industry, Robert McFarlane was a prominent political figure. He served as the national security advisor under President Ronald Reagan from 1983 to 1985. However, McFarlane was more notorious for his misdemeanors in the scandalous Iran-Contra affair, in which he sold arms to Iran in exchange for hostages. McFarlane died on May 12, 2022, at the age of 84.

Robert Morse was a veteran Broadway, TV and film actor who won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. In a career spanning nearly 60 years, he appeared in about 100 theatres, TV, and film productions. Morse died on April 20, 2022, at the age of 90.

Sidney Poitier was a legendary Bahamian American actor, director, and producer, who made history in the motion picture industry as the first African American to win an Academy Award for best actor for his critically acclaimed performance in Lillies of the Field (1964). Throughout his career, Poitier was the recipient of multiple accolades for his contribution to the silver screen. The Hollywood veteran died on Jan. 6 at the age of 94.

Dr. Paul Farmer was a physician, anthropologist, and humanitarian, gaining global acclaim and respect with his dedication to delivering health care to people worldwide. As a much-respected professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Paul Farmer founded the global nonprofit Partners in Health, which aims at easing people's suffering by providing them with basic needs.
Dr. Paul Farmer died on February 21, aged 62.

Her overt carnality was years ahead of time, with the cult singer incorporating ferocious, sexually-oriented lyrics in her songs and using offbeat performance styles on the dance floor. Betty Davis died on February 9 due to natural causes, aged 77.

Patrick Demarchelier was one of the most influential personalities that shaped the fashion photography industry. The French fashion photographer was the personal portraitist of Princess Diana, helping to propel the Princess' reputation with mesmerizing photos. He was also the leading photographer of many advertising campaigns for global brands such as Chanel and Dior. Demarchelier died on March 31 at the age of 78.

Gaspard Ulliel

Gaspard Ulliel

French actor Gaspard Ulliel rose to fame with his performances in Paris, je t'aime, A Very Long Engagement, Hannibal Rising, and It's Only The End Of The World. He was also the face of Chanel men's fragrance Bleu de Chanel for twelve years. His reputation was about to reach the global audience as he was cast for the Marvel much-anticipated series Moonknight. Unfortunately, he died tragically from a head injury caused by a skiing accident on January 19, much to fans' regret.

Shinzo Abe

Shinzo Abe

On July 8, former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe passed away, aged 67. Prior to his death, the politician was assassinated by a gunshot while giving a public speech at a political event. Despite being given blood transfusions in large quantities, he died of blood loss only hours after the assault. Abe, who was the longest-serving prime minister of the Asian country, remained an influential political figure even after stepping down from the role. His tragic death was mourned by Japanese citizens, who were shocked at the barbarism of the attack. Later, Japanese police arrested the killer, who was reported to bear a grudge against the ex-PM for political issues.

Former Arsenal boss Terry Neil passed away on July 28, 2022, though the exact cause of his death remains unknown. Neil, who was born in 1942, was most famous for his time at London club Arsenal, where he went down in history as the youngest player to be captain, aged only 20 when receiving the captain band. Totally, Neil, who played center back, had 270 league appearances for the club between 1959 and 1970, coupled with 59 international caps for Northern Ireland. After retiring from football, Neil returned to Arsenal as manager from 1976 to 1983, leading the club to two FA Cup finals, plus a Uefa Cup Winners' Cup final.

Australian singer Olivia Newton-John passed away on Monday, 8 August, according to a statement from her family. Since 2018, Olivia had been battling cancer at the base of her spine. Arguably one of the greatest country singers of all time, Olivia rose to fame in the 70s thanks to her angelic voice and irresistible charm. Her notable hits included Physical, Twist of Fate, and Let Me Be There. Aside from her musical career, Olivia was also famous for her appearance in the 1978's hit movie musical Grease, in which she co-starred opposite John Travolta.

David Armstrong

David Armstrong

Former England international David Armstrong passed away, aged 69, on Sunday, 21 August. During his time as a professional footballer, Armstrong played for three English clubs - Middlesbrough, Southampton, and Bournemouth. He appeared in 590 first-team appearances, scoring 120 goals for the three clubs. With Middlesbrough, Armstrong became one of the most prominent stars thanks to his remarkable durability, helping the side to grab a promotion in the 1973/1974 season.

Gian Piero Ventrone, fitness coach at Tottenham Hotspur, dies at 61 on 6 October after a long battle with leukemia. During his time as a coach, Ventrone was well known for his rigorous, intensive training sessions that maximized players' fitness and stamina. He's one of the most respectable figures at Tottenham and has contributed greatly to the club's improvements under Conte's management.

A monarch known for her dedication to service, Queen Elizabeth II steered her country through difficult times and prosperity. Following her death, her eldest son - Prince Charles, ascended the throne and became King Charles.

Robbie Coltrane

One of the most veteran actors in the UK, Robbie Coltrane was perhaps most famous for his portrayal of the adorable gamekeeper Hagrid in the Harry Potter film franchise. Aside from his iconic role in Hogwarts, Coltrane also starred in some notable productions such as Cracker, GoldenEye, and The World Is Not Enough. The late actor passed away on 14 October 2022 in Scotland, at the age of 72. Two years prior to his death, Coltrane had been suffering from osteoarthritis and had to use a wheelchair.

Born on April 29, 1955, Leslie Jordan was a veteran actor with a career spanning decades. During his time as an actor, Jordan shot to fame after starring in beloved sitcoms Hearts Afire and Will & Grace. His portfolio also includes cameos in Murphy Brown, Boston Public, and Pee-Wee's Playhouse. In recent years, he became a household name after starring in FOX's Call Me Kat. The actor sadly passed away on October 24 after a tragic car accident.

Born on May 18, 1967, Martin Duffy was most famous as the lead keyboardist for the Scottish rock band Primal Scream. Since joining the band in 1991, the musician has played the keyboard on every Primal Scream album. In addition, he also collaborated with Oasis, Paul Weller, and the Chemical Brothers. Sadly, he passed away on December 18, aged 55. His death was caused by a brain injury.
