After being elected to Parliament in 2010, Mr. Raab caused controversy the following year when he referred to certain feminists as "obnoxious bigots" in an online article. He also argued that men were being unfairly treated. This statement angered the then-Home Secretary, Theresa May.

During his tenure as foreign secretary, Mr. Raab also faced faced significant backlash for his handling of the aftermath of the fall of Afghanistan. Critics were especially scathing of his decision to remain on vacation in Crete while the Taliban regained control of the country.

According to the report, the former frontbencher was exonerated of allegations of verbally abusing and making physical gestures towards staff. However, it did identify his ministerial work style as being "inquisitorial, direct, impatient, and fastidious."

Mr Raab has the right to receive a payout of almost £17,000, which is equivalent to a quarter of his ministerial salary. The MP will face a significant pay cut of £67,505 as he loses his ministerial salary. As a normal backbencher, he will now earn £86,584 annually.

Ms Truss's team recalled his fierce rhetoric and subsequently did not appoint Mr Raab to her cabinet when she became prime minister. Ms Truss did not hold her position for long, and Mr Raab eventually resumed his duties as justice secretary and deputy prime minister.
