The Chase star continued his studies at Exeter College, Oxford where he won a Master of Arts in Mathematics. He completed his Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at the University of Exeter in 1995.

Mark Labbett attended the University of South Wales, previously the University of Glamorgan where he obtained his legal CPE and LPC qualifications. In 2003, he moved to Rotherham where he currently lives.

After getting a teaching certificate and degree, Labbett was initially a mathematics and physical education supply teacher. He taught in two secondary schools, Caldicot School in South Wales and Cove School in Farnborough

When Labbett worked at Butlins holiday camp for extra revenue, he began to be interested in quizzing. In 2001, his pub quiz team was rewarded a weekend in Paris after competing in the national competition Jumbo Quiz.

First appearance on Mastermind

Labbett's first appearance on Mastermind was in 1999 where his subject was the Olympic Games. In 2000, he appeared again on this television quiz show with a specialist subject The Simpsons.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

Mark Labbett’s first appearance in Who Wants to be a Millionaire? was on 5 November 2005. When the victory eluded him in his first participation, he returned to the following series and gained £32,000 across two episodes.

In 2006, the star gameshow is a captain of the Welsh quiz team in the European Quizzing Championships. His team was a champion quizzer having ranked fifth in the European Quizzing Championships.

The ITV’s game show The Chase was first aired in 2009 and was hosted by Bradley Walsh. Labbett got his nickname "The Beast" referencing both his stature and surname Labbett sounds like the French word "la bête", meaning "the beast".

The Chase-Game Show Network

The Beast participated in the American version of The Chase on Game Show Network in August 2013. He also joined the seven chasers in The Chase Australia broadcast on Seven Network alongside fellow British chasers Anne Hegerty and Shaun Wallace.
