Born on 24 January 1924, John Spencer was an aristocrat, military officer, and courtier. When his father passed away in 1975, John Spencer, the father of Princess Diana, was given the honorary title of 8th Earl Spencer. Before that, he was known as Viscount Althorp.
Spencer died in 1992
After divorcing Diana's mother, he became a member of the House of Lords and wed Raine, Countess of Dartmouth in 1976. In 1978, Spencer suffered a severe stroke, from which, at one stage, he was not expected to recover, and which kept him in hospital for eight months.
