The well-known and sometimes controversial British Journalist Laura Kuenssberg is the first woman to have held the position of BBC political editor. Kuenssberg presents the Sunday morning politics show on the BBC. Here we take a look back at her life and career.
Laura was born in Rome, Italy, on the 8th of August 1976 to Sally and Nick Kuenssberg. Laura's grandfather was the honoured German-born physician Ekkehard von Kuenssberg who became the president of the Royal College of General Practitioners in Scotland.
The Kuenssberg family later made their home the Scottish City of Glasgow, where Laura and her siblings attended Laurel Bank School. Although a proud Glaswegian, Laura lives in East London.
Laura Kuenssberg attended University in Edinburgh, completing a degree in History.
Laura has also lived abroad, including a stint in the United States. During her master's degree, she spent a year in Washington attending Georgetown University.
While in the United States and attending Georgetown, Kuenssberg spent some time also interning at NBC.
Kuenssberg started her career at the BBC in 2000 as an intern and went on to host the BBC Daily Politics show before being appointed as the broadcaster's chief political correspondent.
Laura has been described as the perfect host, as an engaging and intelligent political interviewer.
Laura took a break from the BBC in 2011, becoming the Business Editor for ITV. She later returned to the BBC in 2014 as the new presenter of Newsnight.
Laura also presented the well-known Brexit documentary films, The Brexit Storm and the Brexit Storm Continues. Here Tim Farron, the then-leader of the Liberal Democrats, gives an interview with Kuenssberg on the day Brexit was formally triggered.

Pictured here interviewing MP Iain Duncan Smith, Laura has had a number of standout moments in her career. In 2016 she reported that the Queen had spoken of her support of leaving the European Union. At a joint press conference with Donald Trump and Theresa May, she asked the then-President of the United States if he had anything to say to those "worried about him becoming the leader of the free world".

Laura has received a number of awards during her career, including the broadcaster of the year from the Political Studies Association and the Journalist of the Year Award at the British Journalism Awards.

Laura is also an avid user and lover of Twitter.
Kuenssberg has faced allegations of bias, in particular against the Labour Party and its leaders, including Jeremy Corbyn.
An Interview with Boris Johnson in 2020 also stirred things up for Kuenssberg. The BBC received many complaints that Laura had shown bias against Johnson.
After stepping down as political editor Laura in May 2022, she replaced Sophie Raworth and Andrew Marr as the host of the now-entitled Sunday with Kuenssberg morning show. The political show airs on both BBC online and BBC One on Sundays.
The then MP, Liz Truss, appeared on the first edition of the Laura Kuenssberg Sunday Show in September 2022. Liz Truss went on to be voted in as the new leader and the U.K. Prime Minister.
