In 2009, the pair meet on the set of The Last Song. Miley was already a successful Disney star, and Liam's popularity was rising too. The filmed the adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel in Georgia, and sparks certainly flew!
They began dating on the set of The Last Song but they both denied it, even after being spotted by the paps. However in March 2010, they finally admitted they were together.
Just 5 months after revealing their relationship, the pair split. However, their split didn't last long, and they were soon seen back together.
After 3 years together, rumours started about the pair being engaged. Apparently the ring people saw on Miley's finger was a topaz, and she had been wearing it for several months.
Only 3 months after engagement rumours, Miley and Liam actually did get engaged, and Miley proudly showed off her ring during a red carpet event. Liam proposed with a 3.1-carat Neil Lane diamond ring at the end of May.
After several split rumours, Miley and Liam revealed they had split. Around this time, Miley released her album, Bangerz, which was a huge success - although her crazy antics also stole headlines.
After their split, they both started seeing other people. Miley's relationships grabbed headlines, as she was seen dating Patrick Schwarzenegger and Victoria's Secret model Stella Maxwell. By 2015, she is single, and comes out as pansexual.
After Miley and Liam's split, his brother Chris Hemsworth told the press, "I’ve watched Liam do things I did at his age [like] being reckless just to prove a point. And I had no empathy. My mom had to remind me I was the same way". It is rumoured he was talking about Miley.
After a few years apart, the pair were seen visiting each other's families. Miley came down to Byron Bay, Australia, to visit Liam's, and he traveled to the States to visit the Cyrus family. This obviously made us wonder if they got back together. Miley was also snapped with her engagement ring back on.
Miley released her album, Younger Now, and notably the single Malibu, which was about her getting back with Liam. They seemed stronger than ever, but at the end of 2018, their home burnt down in the California wildfires.
Chris Hemsworth, Liam's brother, shuts down rumours that the couple got married in secret.
Miley and Liam went through a rocky patch after Miley suggested a prenup before they got married. Liam was apparently "deeply offended".
The pair reveal on Instagram that they got married on Christmas Eve 2018 in Nashville, their new home. They had a very intimate wedding with their closest friends and family.
In August 2019, after just 8 months of marriage, the couple announced their divorce. Miley was seen dating Kaitlynn Carter for a short time.
Liam and Miley announced their split in their own Instagram posts, with Liam wishing her "nothing but health and happiness".
After their split, Miley released the track Don't Call Me An Angel with Lana Del Rey and Ariana Grande for the Charlie's Angels reboot. This song is rumoured to be about Liam, who used to call Miley "angel".
Liam and Miley unfollowed each other on Instagram, and Elsa Pataky, Chris Hemsworth's wife, told press Liam "deserves much more".
Miley finally releases her highly-anticipated album, Plastic Hearts. It was finished, but following her divorce, she erased and rerecorded the album, as "everything had changed".
In January 2023, Miley released her single Flowers, about things that her ex-boyfriend did for her that she could do for herself. Of course, everyone guessed it was about Liam, and rumours came out about Liam cheating on her 14 times.
Sources have said that Liam is going to sue Miley for defamation after she released Flowers. He claims he lost his contract for The Witcher because of the song.
